Any tips for starting pepper seeds?

I live in Georgia and last year my parents grew jalepeno peppers. What they did was plant them in a row and next to it they carved out a small line running parallel to the row and stuck the water hose on the end and let the water run down to the plants. Those plants thrived and we had tons of peppers. They're really not that hard to grow.. out here at least. And they grow to be a decent sized plant so if you're going for growing it in a pot I recommend a big pot.
