Changing instruments Freshmen year?

I'm a freshmen in high school and this is my 5th year playing double b. I love it but I hate not being able to bring it anywhere because of it's size. Also, it's expensive so if something ever happened to it then it would be a lot to cover. I wanted to go to Curtis Institute but I don't like double b. I'm a decent player. If I switch to violin or cello then would that ruin my chance of going to Curtis? I'm willing to practice 3 hours a day.
