How do I know my industrial piercing is healing?

I got it pierced about a week and a half ago. Its a bit sore, but not as bad as I hear it would. I tend to have a lot of drainage that dries to form crusties around the bar, but its not pus like. I clean it as my piercer told me with sea salt soaks or anti-bacterial soap. Sometimes it hurts to turn it, but I do not want it to heal to the bar. What are come signs of it healing well. I already know it should take up to a year to completely heal.
